Bristol's Young Heroes celebrated in tenth annual awards ceremony

(Late to the party but want to make sure this got a shout out!) Well done everyone!

Some of the city’s most inspiring young people have been honoured at the tenth annual Bristol Young Heroes Awards.

Hundreds of young people, their supporters and members of the business community attended the heart-warming event at the Bristol Harbour Hotel on Friday.

Set up in 2012, the night recognises and celebrates young people who have overcome adversity to do great things.

The Overall Hero winner at this year’s ceremony was Mitchell Woolley, who has put in more than 500 hours volunteering at Knowle West youth organisation Youth Moves in the last year.

While the prestigious High Sheriff’s Award – the only award given to adults, for their considerable dedication to the service of young people – went to youth workers Jesse and Will Payne of Young Bristol.

“I want Bristol to be the best city in the world for young people, because I think our young people deserve it and we’ve got all of the right ingredients to make it happen.” said Amy Kington, founder and CEO of Community of Purpose.

“We’ve got some brilliant young people as demonstrated tonight, we’ve got incredible businesses that give so much in order to shine a light on some of these incredible young people, and the organisations and adults that support them.

“I think it’s really important sometimes to shine that light because in doing so you can raise aspirations and open doors that people didn’t imagine were possible. So nights like this are really important because it might completely change a young person’s worldview and where they end up in the future.”
