Beyond Equality - positive masculinities, mental wellbeing and building supportive communities

Beyond Equality are partnering with Movember to run a nationwide project focused on engaging groups of men in conversations around positive masculinities, mental wellbeing and building supportive communities.

Bristol and the surrounding area has been selected as the first region to benefit from the ‘Collective Resilience in Community Settings’ project, with the first phase already underway.

The project will consist of groups of men taking part in a series of interactive workshops, providing them with the space to explore social dynamics that enable harmful stereotypes, challenge stigmas associated with self-care and help-seeking and build communities that encourage care and wellbeing.

A team of local facilitators are being trained to work with groups throughout the community, using their local knowledge to adapt the work for the challenges facing local men. Groups are being recruited from a variety of community settings such as football clubs, charities, men’s support groups, boxing clubs, community centres and many more.

The aim is for the project to leave a sustainable legacy, by empowering local community leaders with the tools to continue holding these conversations, whilst maintaining inclusive and accessible spaces. This will be in the form of in-person community leader training, as well as on-going mentorship and support.

If you’re connected to a group of men who would be interested in engaging with this project, or if you just want to know more, please reach out at bristol@beyondequality.org
