Bristol and Weston NHS charities merge under new name

Two NHS charities in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare have merged under a new name in an exciting move that will see thousands more patients and NHS staff benefit from new opportunities and support.

Above & Beyond and Weston Area Charitable Trust have become one charity for the whole of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).

From today the charity will be known as Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity and will represent all ten hospitals within the Trust.

Paul Kearney, chief executive of Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, said: “We’re delighted that following the Trust’s merger last year to become UHBW, the charities have now been able to join forces too.

“As a team we have been supporting the city centre hospitals in Bristol for 47 years and the passion to support the NHS runs deeply through us all.

“There’s no greater feeling than the knowledge that we have made a difference to the lives of so many people. Having Weston General Hospital in our charity family will enable us to do great things for even more patients in Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and across the South West.”

Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity support all 10 sites within UHBW with projects beyond what the NHS is able to provide.

The charity fund the little things that make a big difference and work with the Trust to provide healing environments and spaces which provide dignity, privacy and empathy. They fund world-class technology, treatments, knowledge and medical research and champion equitable access for all patients. 

Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity worked with the Bristol-based design agency Mr B & Friends on the vibrant new charity branding.

Paul said: “This is a really exciting opportunity and we wanted a new identity that radiates positivity and has a clear name to represent and reflect this partnership as we move forward.

“Mr B & Friends has really embraced our cause and this new look and we’re looking forward to being a bold, positive and energetic force across Bristol and Weston.”
