Queer indie comic art festival launches fundraiser
Organisers behind the UK’s first LGBTQ+ comic art festival have launched a fundraiser to cover rising costs associated with 2023’s event.
Founded by Chris Lock and Nathan J Adam, Pride Comic Art Festival (PrideCAF) provides queer artists, writers and creators a dedicated space to platform and celebrate their work in “a safe and supportive environment at an affordable price”.
“Indie comics are a great resource for individuals or group to share their art, interests, passions, and stories with the world without the limitations, red tape and sometimes censorship of a publishing company,” the couple said.
But, in a bid to make Septembers event at the Station “bigger, better and more accessible for everyone”, Chris and Nathan are appealing for donations.
Any money raised via the online fundraiser will be funnelled into improving accessibility, printing costs, event cost, including equipment hire, refreshments and photography.
“Fees have gone up a lot in 2023,” Nathan and Chris wrote. “Our chosen venue has had to make changes to its fees which takes a lot from our budget.
“The venue is also a charity and we want to continue to support more green roots organisations compared to moving to a corporate ran event space.
“So far in 2023, we have been busy trying to get funding but have been unsuccessful including a recent rejected application from the Arts Council.”
All profits from the festival will circulate back to the community helping those who otherwise feel forgotten in their community.
