One mum has made it her mission to hand out free presents to dozens of children who otherwise would wake up on Christmas morning with nothing under the tree.

Shauna Millman from Kingswood was left stunned this summer when she joined a community push to help families who were on the breadline, after losing their jobs through the pandemic.

The 32-year-old dished out free meals to more than 50 families.

But her efforts have not ended there. With Christmas fast-approaching she quickly decided to launch her own fundraiser so children in these families would still receive a present on December 25.

"I didn't realise how many families were living close by were really struggling," said Shauna. "I didn't like to ask too many questions when I was handing out the food parcels, I wanted to make sure they didnt feel judged.

"But some told me they were going without food to feed their children and Christmas would be a struggle. It's just heartbreaking to think what those families must be going through."

Bristol’s economy has at least 8,000 fewer jobs than before the pandemic. And it's estimated around 22,000 Bristolians have been made redundant since coronavirus first hit.

She added: "We are providing food packs for families struggling at the moment and also doing a Christmas toy collection to ensure every child has something to open. I want this to reach as many people."

Shauna has now teamed up with Clock Tower Fish Bar in Kingswood and is asking for toy donations to be dropped off there.
