A Knowle West-based youth charity that supported 800 young people last year has been shortlisted for a national award for its work through the Covid-19 crisis.

Youth Moves is one of five finalists from across the country for the Inspiring Youth Organisation Award, part of the inaugural UK Youth Inspiring Hope Awards.

The new awards ceremony will “celebrate the stories of young people, leaders and groups who work hard to improve the lives of others”, taking place virtually on Wednesday, March 3.

Ali Dale, CEO for Youth Moves, says the charity is very proud to be shortlisted for the award.

“This is testimony to the staff that have worked tirelessly with outstanding commitment and passion for young people and the community during a difficult year for all,” he says.

“We see ourselves as an authentic organisation grounded in the communities we serve, with staff that have real relationships, and we will remain so.”

Youth Moves has three youth clubs which would usually take place at The Park Centre but have been taking place on Zoom due to Covid-19.

The charity has also been doing one-on-one youth work and small group work through the pandemic. This includes at its allotment space, where young people have been growing food, getting involved in outdoor activities and enjoying nature.

Youth Moves is based at The Park Centre and works with young people in Knowle West, Hartcliffe and Withywood.

“To get to the final five of a national award for inspiring hope in this climate is truly an honour,” adds Denise Clifford, head of youth work delivery for Youth Moves.

“Our team have gone so far above and beyond any expectations and it is the whole of the Youth Moves team who deserve this recognition.”
