Kindhearted Airbus staff have collected more than 100kg of food produce, for homeless people in Bristol, equivalent to the weight of a fully-grown reindeer.

The early Christmas present of non-perishable food items, such as tinned goods, dried pasta and biscuits, was handed over to Airbus Filton’s charity partner Help Bristol’s Homeless.

The initiative, organised jointly with trade union Unite, encouraged Airbus employees to drop off items at five food-collection points across the Filton site. Unite also redeemed vouchers with supermarket Iceland to make a donation of breakfast items.

Chris Young, Deputy Convenor for Unite at Airbus Filton, said: “We wanted to make a contribution to Help Bristol’s Homeless in support of their Christmas Appeal. The employees here at Filton have made a terrific difference and I’m grateful for their contribution.”

Caroline Jenkinson, Change Platform Agent at Airbus, said: “It’s heartbreaking to see people sleeping rough in the cold in today’s day and age. Help Bristol’s Homeless were a natural choice being one of our five partner charities and I can only hope it will help some people this Christmas.”

The food was collected from Filton by Help Bristol’s Homeless (helpbristolshomeless.org) founder, Jasper Thompson.
