Bristol charity and coffee roaster partner up to combat homelessness

Emmaus Bristol has teamed up with Blind Owl Coffee Company to create a unique hand-roasted coffee blend, with every cup supporting homeless people.

The charity offers a home, sense of community, meaningful work, and tailored support to help people who have been homeless get back on their feet.

It funds its work through social enterprise activities, mainly consisting of selling quality pre-loved items. The charity’s high street shops are operated by the people currently supported by Emmaus Bristol so they can learn new skills and gain work experience for future employment.

The charity-blend ‘morning motivation’ has been made in partnership with independent speciality roaster, Blind Owl Coffee Co., with all profits from sales going directly to Emmaus Bristol to support its work.

Xanne Carey, social enterprise manager at Emmaus Bristol, said: “We understand how important home comforts are. When you have lived experience of homelessness, something as simple as making your own morning brew can be a precious ritual.

"We have launched the product just in time for the festive season, so it could make the perfect gift for coffee lovers with the additional benefit of supporting a charity at the same time.”

The team at Blind Owl Coffee Co. has created the charity-blend using high-quality Arabica beans, as owner Robyn Morley explains: “We’ve taken beans from two of the top coffee producing countries in the world – Brazil and Vietnam, hand-roasting them into a medium roast profile, which produces a velvety, full-bodied cup of indulgence.

Robyn said: “As a passionate group of coffee enthusiasts, we wanted to help address homelessness in our city. To us, the ritual of brewing and drinking a freshly made cup of coffee at home is one of life’s purest pleasures and is so often taken for granted.

"We believe that by working with a community-based charity like Emmaus Bristol, together we can help to raise awareness of homelessness, generate significant donations, and make a real difference to people’s lives.”
