Local resident Hayley wanted to help her friend Sylvia and other neighbours in Hartcliffe.

Sylvia, like many others in the area, lives in an older persons block where isolation can be one of the big challenges. For Sylvia, a wheelchair user, it was difficult to access the community before Hayley helped her.

With help from Bristol City Council's Community Development Team, Hayley invited Sylvia’s neighbours to an afternoon tea in a community room. She was also able to get £30 start-up funding for tea and coffees from LiveWest Housing Association who help provide small amounts of money for community groups.

At the tea, people shared ideas around future activities, suppers and trips and Sylvia got to share her birthday with other local residents!

“I like to help the older people in the area, especially if they are isolated and unable to get out.” (Hayley)
